Most traffic disasters are self-inflicted, and migrations cause more of them than any algorithm update. A redesign that drops URL paths, a CMS change that loses meta data, a domain move with no redirect map: each one can erase years of accumulated search equity in a week.
We run migrations like releases. Full URL inventory before anything moves, one-to-one redirect mapping, a staging crawl compared against production, launch-day checks, and a monitored recovery window with rankings and indexing tracked daily until the curves settle.
